Assisted Living Compass

Clear, practical guidance for families exploring assisted living.

Choosing assisted living can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re trying to make sense of costs, care levels, timing, and what to ask on tours. Assisted Living Compass is an independent educational resource built to help families understand the basics and make confident next steps.

This site is designed for everyday people—not industry insiders. We focus on plain-language explanations, practical checklists, and the questions that matter most.

What you’ll find here

What this site does not do

Assisted Living Compass is not a medical site and does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or emergency guidance. If you need urgent help, contact local emergency services. For medical questions, consult a licensed healthcare professional.

We also don’t promote any single facility or claim that one provider is “best.” The goal is to help you understand the process and make informed choices.

A simple starting point

If you’re new to the topic, start with these three questions:

  1. What kind of support is needed today?
Daily help, memory support, mobility assistance, medication reminders, or supervision.
  2. What matters most to the resident?
Location, privacy, social environment, faith culture, food, activities, quiet, or safety.
  3. What’s the realistic budget range?
Including potential add-ons and changes in care level over time.

Once you can answer those, the rest of the process becomes much clearer.

We’re actively building this resource. New guides and printable tools are being added regularly, including assisted living tour checklists, cost comparison worksheets, care level explanations, and family conversation guides.
